It's a very interesting site. The next time that I an across the Pond in London during spring or summer I will try to take in a game. It's good to see that baseball is gaining popularity in the UK.

Irwin Saranillo, that's crazy, I was just surfing the internet and didn't expect to find a Saranillo baseball player.

TJ...what team do you play for? You sound like a great guy and would love to play for the same team as you... or not
missi 23-10-2003 - 17:13
do you have any girls playing ball with you? Have you ever had one or two play for you? You want one to play?
Club reply: Yes girls are most welcome to join the club and the Pirates have had a long history of them playing for the club at at all levels

Pirates II DO NOT play in the Premier division South anymore, so your main page needs to be changed. Have fun in 1st division South... and when you are ready for a wooping, come back up to the Premier division South again.

I am Ryans Dad.
I was very happy to hear that the team made the final series but I am sorry that you were knocked out in the first semi. Better luck next year. I am sure that Ryan will miss all of you when he returns to Oz. Anyone from the Pirates who comes out to Australia make sure you look us up and come out and have a drink with us.
I know that Ryan enjoyed himself playing ball with the team.
Again all the best for next year

Regards

Steve Krkby

How much junk can you put on the first page? It is such a mess, how can anyone find what they are looking for (unless they know exactly where it is)? And if you do find it, nothing is updated on a timely basis. Ugh. How frustrating it must be to be a part of this club... who is suppose to be a top club with their decent field and a final 4 place in the RNL.

the website will be updated when Croydon starts winning consistently... so don't count on it being updated for a long time

Hello to all at Croydon Pirates from Pirates Baseball in Wollongong Australia. Great site you have here. Hope you all visit us and sign our guestbook. Great to see you all enjoy your baseball there in the UK as much as we do in Australia. Allthe best and GO THE PIRATES!

I think First Week of Season has a point. You need a knockout tournament.
Who cares if everyone plays one another, from where I stand it seems like the way to go.
Nice to see the Pirates doing well. Rock on guys.

First Week of Season
28-07-2003 - 12:37
Great win Croydon 3 over Guildford in last game of the regular season in Division 1. Too bad you lost by 1 run in the FIRST WEEK of the season to Southampton... ugh. Or when you lost to Windsor even though you were leading the game going into the bottom of the 9th and bottom of the 10th. Those were away games, but you lost a home game to Richmond even though you were leading after 7 complete innings.

Another FIRST WEEK bad game was for Croydon 2 who did not even play their first game against Essex. And if Croydon 2 lose the rest of their games, while Essex beat the last place Bucks... then it looks like Essex ends up on top of Croydon 2 due to head-to-head matches. So good luck Croydon 2 if you have to play the 2nd place Division 1 team for placement in the Premiership next season.

Thank goodness Croydon 1 beat Menwith in the FIRST WEEK. Now that Croydon 1 split with Brighton last weekend, they just need to split with Menwith Hill to avoid the bottom of the RNL.

Good luck Croydon... but it looks like you really needed the luck at the beginning of the season.

elimination tournament works better
09-07-2003 - 17:04
GB under 25 loses both games on the first day, and still wins the tournament? Menwith Hill also loses both games on the first day, and still wins a trophy (even though Zuidvogels won both their games on the second day and only lost one game on day 1)?

This group format only works if the teams play all other teams in their group (seeding one good team in each group would be fine). With 16 teams, you have what is called an elimination tournament... the winner will play 4 games and win them all. Very simple for the champions!

All other teams will still play at least 4 games, with the losing teams going into another bracket (and so on)... so obviously losing all 4 games will result in last place for the booby prize. After everyone has played 4 games, there will be 4 teams left who are 3-1 (each team having lost in a different round).

The best scenario for a 2nd trophy would be for those 4 teams to continue playing an elimination, but that would require 2 more rounds and you may not have enough time (unless you simply shorten the games to an hour or 3 innings or something). Or you could simply have one more round with the teams that lost a game on day 1 playing each other... and the teams that lost a game on day 2 playing each other. At this point, either have 2 small trophies or have a short decider like a 3-inning (1 hour) game, or even a Home Run contest or something else for fun.

The bottom line is that an elimination tournament works better than what was organised this last weekend.

time for u to get a life my man!..(or really ugly woman:))...the folks at Croydon play because they love the game. If you would be so kind as to include your address with your next post, I'd be happy to "pop round for a cuppa" next time I'm in the area:)

At least we are the best that Croydon has. Our other 2 teams are at the bottom of their tables. So there!
TJ 20-06-2003 - 16:21
I noticed that you delete all of the messages that are not favourable to your club.

So I guess the only thing you want posted in the guestbook is good comments to make yourselves feel good.

Well I am sorry but there is just not much to say about a Division 1 team who is going to miss the playoffs, even though half the league makes the playoffs.

I guess they will just have to play around with all of the newly formed teams in August, and then some good things can be said about your Division 1 team... for coming in 7th place at best.

Good luck Croydon III, you need it.

I have been involved with the club for two years and will always remember my time here.
I leave for America on June 15th & leave Croydon Monday 26th May.
In helping start the third team I hope I made my mark with the club. I will keep up with things from America, so take care everyone.
Best Wishes

I am just touching base to wish you good luck on your 2003 season. I live in Canada, but worked in Bracknell last summer and helped Rob Rance coach the Bracknell Blazers. I fear that British Baseball has gotten in my blood. I will continue to follow the British Baseball exploits through web sites like yours, Bracknell's and others. Good Luck in 2003.
